The 2014 Dance of the Year, Amanda Daly, was announced on September 14th at the California Ballet Annual Meeting. While thisaward is always well deserved and hard earned, this year’s was extra special as Amanda has been a part of the California Ballet family her entire life.
Amanda made her first solo appearance on the California Ballet stage in the 1995 premiere of Alice in Wonderland as the Dormouse and a diminutive version of Denise Dabrowski’s Alice. She is a dedicated dancer who, thanks to her life-long relationship with the ballet company, has a profound understanding of the California Ballet repertoire. Her knowledge and razor-edge attention to detail causes other dancers to turn to her when they have questions, which led to her appointment as Assistant Ballet Mistress during last season’s Sleeping Beauty.
Amanda’s presence in the dance studio is a pleasure, and always a benefit to her fellow dancers and instructors. Congratulations Amanda, and thank you for all of your hard work!
