California Ballet’s 47th Season Opens with Romantic Classic

Giselle 47 Goldstar

California Ballet Company announces the lineup for its 47th season. The season begins November 1st and 2nd with the romantic ballet Giselle. A jewel of the classical ballet repertoire, Giselle demonstrates how beautiful and heartbreaking dance can be. Principal Ballerina Chie Kudo will make her debut as the eponymous Giselle. Guest Artist Andrei Jouravlev, currently on staff with the Joffrey School of Ballet, will reprise his role as Prince Albrecht. This production will also be the official debut of new Principal Dancers Ana de Costa and Trystan Merrick alternating with Kudo and Jouravlev in the roles of Giselle and Albrecht, respectively.

Nutcropped

December is the holiday season, and no holiday is complete without The Nutcracker. California Ballet once again presents the perennial favorite December 13-14 with the Classics Philharmonic, and December 17-21 with the San Diego Symphony. The 2014 production of The Nutcracker will feature Guest Artist Sascha Radetsky, former Soloist with American Ballet Theatre.

Midsummer47

The 47th Season ends with the ballet adaptation of the Bard’s timeless comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Deam on April 11-12, 2015. Fairies, spirits, imps, and elves, the magic of A Midsummer Night’s Dream captures the imagination of people of all ages each time it returns to the stage. This exquisitely detailed production, with meaningless quarrels and magic spells woven by the infamous Puck, is pure entertainment for both children and adults!
