The Nutcracker’s Cavalier
The role of the Sugar Plum Fairy’s Cavalier is always reserved for the best male dancers in ballet companies across the world. California Ballet Company’s 2014 production of The Nutcracker will feature newcomers Principal Trystan Merrick and Guest Artist Sascha Radetsky in the premiere role.
Sascha Radetsky joined American Ballet Theatre in 1996. In 2008 he joined the Dutch National Ballet for two years, then returned to ABT where he retired from the company in 2014. Sasha appeared as Charlie in Columbia Picture’s Center Stage. The 2014 production of The Nutcracker will be his CBC guest artist debut.
Trystan Merrick joined CBC this year as a Principal Dancer. His debut as Albrecht in Giselle was hailed as a dramatic and technical success. Tristan comes from a background of both contemporary and classical dance styles, and recently completed a 16 country tour with the Ballet Trocadero de Monte Carlo. He is an active member of Jean Isaacs’ San Diego Dance Theater, and a welcome addition to the California Ballet roster of professional dancers.
