California Ballet Company started its 47th season with Giselle. A jewel of the classical ballet repertoire, Giselle tells a hauntingly tragic tale of love, betrayal, death, and forgiveness. CBC was elated to feature returning Guest Artist Andrei Jouravlev reprising the role of Albrecht and CBC Ballerina Chie Kudo making her debut as Giselle. Ana da Costa and Trystan Merrick also made their debuts as CBC principal dancers, alternating with Jouravlev and Kudo in the title roles. Both couples offered flawless interpretations of the ballet’s lead roles, receiving rave eviews. Brik Middlekauff, in a stunning performance as Myrtha, exuded a stern and commanding presence that filled the Civic Theatre with palpable energy.
Director Maxine Mahon gave a pre-performance lecture. A red carpet photo opportunity had theater goers smiling for the camera. A reception was held in the Grand Salon where CBA members and VIP guests were treated to a delicious spread catered by CUCINAurbana. The eception was attended by several people of note including Robert Gleason, Chair of the Commission for Arts and Culture, and Jeff Block, President of ABC10 San Diego.
Giselle ushered in CBC’s 47th season with a well-received and finely executed theatrical experience!
