Vitaliy Nechay, Principal

California Ballet - Vitaliy Nechay

A native of Ukraine, Vitaliy Nechay received his training at the Kiev State Ballet Academy. Upon graduation, he joined the prestigious Kiev National Theater of Ballet, where he rose to the rank of soloist.  He toured with the company throughout Europe as well as the republics of the former Soviet Union, performing solo roles in some of the most famous ballets: Swan Lake, Nutcracker, Spartacus, Paquita, Coppelia, Don Quixote, Romeo and Juliet, La Bayadere, La Sylphide, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Chopiniana, Bolero, The Flames of Paris, Giselle and Cinderella.  With his vast experience and Russian training, Mr. Nechay brings a new dimension of ballet to the company.  Mr. Nechay joined the company as a soloist in 2003 and he was appointed to Principal in 2008.  His featured roles with CBC include Go the Distance, Snow King, Cavalier, and Herr Drosselmeyer in The Nutcracker, Lead Mazurka in Swan Lake, The Prince in Snow White, Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Rose Adagio Suitor in Sleeping Beauty, and Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet.  In 2007, he made his debut in the principal role of Albrecht in Giselle and most recently as Jonathon in Charles Bennet’s Dracula. Mr. Nechay also teaches locally.
