Music Director, John Stubbs
John Stubbs was appointed Music Director and Conductor of the California Ballet Company in 1996. Born in Mr. Stubbs conducts the San Diego Symphony for the California Ballet Company's productions and has guest conducted the Colorado Springs Symphony and the Wyoming Symphony for CBC performances of The Nutcracker on tour. Recently Mr. Stubbs conducted the San Diego Chamber Orchestra for the California Ballet Company's participation in the re-opening Gala of the Balboa Theatre. In addition to conducting ballet standards such as The Nutcracker, Paquita, and Serenade, he has conducted premieres of new works with music by Bach, Vivaldi, De Falla, Albinoni, George Crumb, and Yoav Talmi. His passion for bringing music and musicians together with dance has facilitated the creation of critically praised works by resident choreographers. His reduced arrangement of The Nutcracker was written for the California Ballet Company and is available at his website for sale or rent by going to Editions Diaghilev. While continuing his duties as violinist in the symphony and opera, he finds participation in California Ballet Company's effort for artistic growth an exciting challenge. Mr. Stubbs is married to CBC Prima Ballerina Denise Dabrowski.
