Magic, Ballet, and the Bard . . .
Based upon Shakespeare's most popular comedy, California Ballet's A Midsummer Night's Dream returns to the San Diego Civic Theatre in April 2015. Set to music by Mendelssohn, the ballet portrays the adventures of four young lovers and a group of amateur actors and their interactions with woodland fairies and a duke and duchess. Taking place in a mythical Athens and an enchanted forest, there is a handsome fairy king, a misguided parent, star-crossed lovers, a weaver who's transformed into a half-donkey, forest creatures, wood sprites and elves. In the end, it's about the world's most popular pastime, falling in love. But as Puck knows, falling in love can make fools of us all.
Children and adults are invited to bring their wings and participate in a Fairy Frenzy prior to the performance. Fairy themed cocktails and mocktails will be available in concessions. A costume contest will take place on the red carpet, the winner will be announced on Facebook following the run. The winner will receive premium Gold Rope tickets to The Nutcracker in December 2015. Fairies are invited to shed their wings at the Wing Check during the performance.
Approximate duration is 2 hours and 15 minutes with one intermission.
Children must be 4 or older to attend.
