California Ballet is excited to welcome award-winning Dana Zimbric to the California Ballet family. For several years she has worked alongside CBC Music Director, John Stubbs and will now take the baton at the Civic Theatre to conduct the orchestra for several performances of The Nutcracker 2016.
Dana is a conductor on a mission to make classical music relevant, engaging, and awesome for today’s audiences of all ages. Both on and off the podium, she brings passion and energy to her work promoting classical music and music education.
Ms. Zimbric has served as Artistic Director and Conductor of the California Chamber Orchestra since 2010, as well as Classics 4 Kids (and the Classics Philharmonic Orchestra) since 2003, and in 2016 joined the conducting staff of the California Ballet Company.
The San Diego Business Journal honored Dana as a “Women Who Mean Business 2015” finalist. The prior year, she was invited to her childhood hometown in Michigan where she was inducted into the Rockford School’s Foundation Hall of Fame for her work as an orchestral conductor.
As guest conductor, Ms. Zimbric has led the San Diego State University Symphony Orchestra and various Honor Orchestras for the San Diego Unified School District. Previously, she held conducting positions with Orchestra Nova (formerly the San Diego Chamber Orchestra), San Diego Youth Symphony, Avanti (Youth) Chamber Orchestra, and the University of Wisconsin Chamber and Symphony Orchestras.
Through her continued professional training, Ms. Zimbric has conducted orchestras in New York, Chicago, Milwaukee, WI, Ann Arbor, MI, Norwalk, CT, Santa Cruz, CA and Puerto Rico.
Dana, her husband Mike, and their two daughters make their home in San Diego, CA.
