San Diego Theatres, Inc., the nonprofit organization which manages the Civic and Balboa Theatres, announced on March 12, 2015 that it will undergo a change in leadership. CEO Don Telford, who has been at the helm of SD Theatres for 40 years, will retired in June.
The performing arts nonprofit responsible to housing Broadway San Diego, San Diego Opera, and California Ballet productions announced that Elizabeth Doran will begin as the new President and Chief Executive Officer on May 1, 2015. Her hiring signifies the passing of a torch for SD Theatres, which has thrived under the leadership of Don Telford. His commitment to advancing entertainment, tourism, and the arts in San Diego's been unwavering. His leadership will continue until June 30th as he works to ensure a smooth transition.
Don Telford has long been a friend and major supporter of the ballet company and will be missed.
Ms. Doran has 20 years of executive experience in the arts, and has first hand experience with San Diego’s vibrant arts and culture scene having previously worked at the La Jolla Playhouse. She currently serves as the Executive Director of The Pasadena Playhouse and was selected following a nationwide search that included over 150 potential candidates.
